Are you planning a group visit to Pienza by coach? Before entering the town, it is mandatory to be aware of the Municipality of Pienza's regulations, which govern access for tourist coaches to the urban area through prior notification to the Municipal Police and payment of an entry tax.
Fees and Regulations ā Tourist Bus Entry Tax
The tax is due for the loading and unloading of passengers within the urban area of Pienza, regardless of the specific boarding/alighting point or parking location. Stopping and loading/unloading are only permitted in the designated marked areas.

Exemptions
The following are exempt from the entry tax:
- Scheduled public transport buses and school buses
- Tourist coaches serving groups of resident citizens (school groups, elderly, clubs and associations) departing from Pienza for organised trips
- Groups attending political, trade union or sporting events
- Groups staying overnight in accommodation facilities within the Municipality of Pienza (exemption document must be requested directly from the accommodation facility)
- Groups who have purchased or booked the combined ticket for the three museums of Pienza (Diocesan Museum, Palazzo Piccolomini and Cathedral Crypt ā exemption document issued by the museum)
- Groups of people with disabilities (with a specific declaration)
- Buses operated by law enforcement or armed forces, or owned by the Municipality of Pienza
- Guests of the municipal administration or local associations
- Other cases expressly authorised by the Municipal Council
ā ļø Important: even in case of exemption, the document issued by the accommodation facility or museum replaces the Municipal Police authorisation and must be displayed on the dashboard upon arrival.

Notification and Payment Procedure
Standard case (at least 3 days before arrival):
- Send an email to polizia.municipale@comune.pienza.si.it attaching:
- Arrival date(s)
- Copy of the vehicle registration document with clearly legible licence plate number
- Proof of tax payment (also cumulative for multiple dates) or exemption document issued by a museum or accommodation facility
- The Municipal Police will send an authorisation to be printed and displayed visibly on the dashboard
Last-minute case (less than 3 days before arrival):
Notify the Municipal Police by email or phone with the bus licence plate and arrival date, along with simultaneous payment of the tax. The exemption document (if applicable) may be sent within 2 days after arrival.

Enforcement is carried out by the Municipal Police through targeted road police checks. The applicable penalties are:
- Failure, delay or partial payment: fine of ā¬ 50.00 in addition to the unpaid amount
- False notification: fine from ā¬ 50.00 to ā¬ 500.00
